It is essential that the Guild and other OMRDD agencies be given a trend factor in next year's budget since they did not get one for this fiscal year. Please follow the link below where you can fill in a form as a staff person or as a family member to send a letter to Governor Paterson urging him to remember us as he prepares his budget. It is urgent that we get as many letters as possible sent, so please pass this on to staff, board members with e-mail addresses, siblings, friends, neighbors, family and anyone else who is interested in services to people with developmental disabilities.

"When I took my son to be enrolled in school, I was told: We have
no classes for such children", recalls Mrs. Olga DeFelippo, GEC's
Founding President. "We were advised to put our children away in
institutions." The Bay Ridge parents were determined to find a better
way. Out of that determination grew The Guild for Exceptional
Children, Inc., organized under the laws of New York State as
a non-profit, non-sectarian, voluntary agency. GEC has since
become a leading provider of direct and indirect services for developmentally
delayed or disabled persons, from infancy through old age, and their
families. |
